Half Girlfriend Movie Review

The film is a Romantic drama film. It’s adapted from a novel by the same name. The novel is written by Chetan Bhagat. He is famous for his novel and other writings in the comedic drama genre. Many of his novels focus on the middle class millennials dwelling in cities in India. He is a well know journalist, and speaker. Bhagat’s works have sold many millions of copies. He has even been known as the biggest selling English language novelist in India’s history per the New York Times. He has been awarded for his screenwriting efforts and has been given Best Screenplay honors.  This is the author’s second film based on one of his novels.

 

The film, “Half Girlfriend” centers around Madhav a young guy and his life. When a girl comes into his life (Riya) he falls in love. Riyah doesn’t really want much to Madhav. But, he is totally infatuated with her and wants to have in his life. He does everything to try get her to be his girlfriend. After much persistence, Riya finally decides to be his “half girlfriend.” She really only wants to be friends with.

Madhav doesn’t speak English very well but Riya does. He wants to get into this school. This is where he meets Riya.  For Madhav it is pretty much love at first sight. She (Riya) is more interested in doing her own thing. Yes, she is beautiful But, she is also very independent and doesn’t want to be tied down in a relationship.

You can really feel Madhav’s pain and longing for Riya. It’s very obvious that to him she isn’t a half girlfriend. But, she is becoming the center of his entire life.

So, the questions is can they find what they have in common and begin to form a relationship?

 

It was film in Summer of 2016 in a wide variety of locations. With the beauty of each one adding to the overall quality of the film. Locations included: Delhi, Patna, Dumraon, Varanasi, New York City and even Cape Town.

The music for the soundtrack is composed by Raju Singh. He has to date composed for Mohit Suri’s films. There are a variety of composers working on the music for the film. These include the following; Mithoon, Tanishk Bagchi, Rishi Rich, Farhan Saeed, Ami and Rual Mishra. The lyrics for the songs have been written by , Manoj Mustashir, Kunaal Vermaa, Arafat Mehmood, Tanishk Bagchi, Laado Suwalka, Anushka Shahaney and more. The soundtrack includes ten 10 songs and was released the end of April.

The music really follows along with the journey of their love story.
