Poorna Movie Review

“Poorna : Courage Has No Limit”

The film is in inspired by the real life story of a 13-year-old tribal girl Poorna Malavath from Telangana a southern state in India.  Poorna, who went on to become the youngest girl in history to scale Mount Everest on May 25th, 2014.

Poorna is played by Aditit Inamdaar.  Poorna and her cousin Priya (played by S. Mariya). Are very close almost like sisters and they share a special relationship.

Together, they dream of escaping their low caste and poverty based life. They have the idea to run to the Social Welfare School as they hear will give them the education and basic necessities they need.

Regrettably, their plans are thwarted as Priya’s father finds out and catches them just when they are about to run off to find freedom.

Sadly, Priya’s father marries off to punish her and keep traditions alive. Thankfully, though, Poorna works tirelessly to try to make up her father’s mind to let her go to the Social Welfare School.

Through her time at the school, she comes to understand that her life really can get better and a good future awaits her. While at the school, she meets Dr RS Praveen Kumar (played by Rahul Bose) who shows her there is more to life and that Poorna has a purpose in this world.

Sometimes hard to watch, as it deals with many realities of those living in poverty today.

The good news is that hope prevails and one person’s destiny despite how the current path may look can be altered with perseverance, hope, and good mentors.

The film brings to light and discusses many important topics. These include child brides, discrimination of class and women and exploitation in a society of those who should be advocates for others because of their position.

A very sad scene was Poorna and her friends were playing a game where they talk about how each one is the poorest of the group. There is sweetness to the scene but it’s also heartbreaking at the same time.

A very heroic inspiring true story. But its focus on her upbringing and struggles more than her bravery in the tackling Mount Everest.

Features heartfelt realistic acting by the performers.

Aditi Inamadar delivers a powerful performance in her role as Malavath Poorna. Bringing sensitivity, innocence, determination, and hope to the role and the story.
