The camaraderie displayed by Metallica was exceptional, with the band making concerted efforts to engage with Avatar throughout the tour. “Headliners are usually nice, but here it was just a different level of it,” he added.

Following the release of their tenth studio album, Don’t Go In The Forest, Eckerström stated that each new record must earn its place in their discography. “The most important thing is finding a reason why it’s essential to make that particular album,” he remarked. Avatar’s core philosophy remains unchanged: “We never want to write the same song twice.”
For this recent album, Eckerström leaned significantly into instinct, focusing on subconscious creativity over the need for explanation until the project was complete. The outcome is a collection of songs that he describes as both dreamy and instinctive, showcasing Avatar’s continuous evolution within the metal genre.
Secrets to Longevity in Metal
After more than two decades together, Avatar has sustained impressive growth and success. When asked about their longevity, Eckerström provided a straightforward answer: ambition and friendship. “We want to write, record, and perform our own stuff. That’s what we want to do first and foremost,” he shared. Everything else is secondary to their passion for music.
Moreover, their commitment to one another plays a crucial role in their persistence. “Taking care of each other—that’s the isolated longevity of the band,” he affirmed. This philosophy has propelled Avatar from local venues in Sweden to sharing the stage with giants like Metallica, and soon, they’re set to perform in Australia again, showcasing their status as a rapidly rising force in metal music.
