The Horrors Return to Australia with Bold New Album
UK rock band The Horrors is set to make a triumphant return to Australia this April after a long 14-year hiatus from headline tours. Fresh from releasing their sixth studio album, Night Life, the band will bring their captivating new sound to cities including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. This tour marks the first time Australian fans will experience their evolved musical direction live on stage.
In an exclusive interview with Music Feeds, frontman Faris Badwan shared insights into the band’s transformation. He revealed that Night Life represents not just a new album, but a complete band reset, emphasizing a more intimate and emotionally resonant songwriting process.
Exploring ‘LA Runaway’ and the New Sound
Faris explained, “With this album, we kind of reorganised the band. It was basically just me and Rhys in his bedroom for a long time, with no outside input. Writing with fewer people allowed me to dive deeper emotionally – it was a completely different way of working.”
This introspective approach has led to a record that deviates from the typical dancefloor vibes to delve into heavier, moodier themes. Night Life might not feature all original five members, but the new lineup, which includes Amelia Kidd on keys and Telegram’s Jordan Cook on drums, has blended seamlessly into the band dynamic.
Australia: A Special Connection
Faris reflects fondly on the band’s last Australian visit during Dark Mofo in 2025, describing it as one of the best festivals he’s ever played. “The attention to detail and the unpredictability are unmatched,” he said. He fondly recalled fans who had supported them since their very first Australian show in 2007, showing the deep connection between the band and its audience.
With excitement building for their upcoming shows, Faris expresses a genuine love for Australia: “Australia feels like the part of the world that hasn’t quite gone bad yet,” he remarked, highlighting the joy the band feels every time they perform there.
Creative Inspiration During Long Flights
Despite the challenges of long flights, Faris finds creativity in the air. He noted, “Flying puts me in a really particular headspace – it’s great for writing.” He amusingly added that he often finds himself wanting to watch romantic comedies while traveling, with When Harry Met Sally being a go-to favorite.
The band is already working on new material and plans to release a double cover of David Bowie’s “Weeping Wall” and “Heroes” soon. For fans who thought Night Life would be a one-time reinvention, there’s more to come.
