Forty-six years after his death, Bon Scott is still bringing Australians together.

The legendary AC/DC frontman would’ve celebrated his 80th birthday this Thursday, 9th July, and fans, pubs, clubs, live music venues, musicians, and DJs across the country are being invited to turn it up in honour of one of Australia’s greatest-ever rock icons.

Led by the Bon Scott Estate – representing the late singer’s family – the global #Bon80 celebrations are encouraging Australians to blast Bon-era AC/DC, host tribute nights, dedicate a song, raise a glass and share their celebrations online throughout the week.

To help fans and venues get involved, the Estate has released a free ‘Let There Be Bon’ #Bon80 Fan & Venue Pack, featuring downloadable posters, social media assets, and promotional material designed for pubs, clubs, cover bands, promoters, and anyone keen to pay tribute to Scott’s enduring legacy.

The celebrations come just days after the unveiling of a new Bon Scott mural in Melbourne’s iconic AC/DC Lane, painted by acclaimed artist and Mental As Anything co-founder Reg Mombassa.

Fans will also be able to mark the milestone with a new Australian home for official Bon Scott merch, while commemorative collectables – including limited-edition gold and silver bars from The Perth Mint – are also being released to celebrate what would’ve been the singer’s 80th.

The Perth Mint release follows the instant sell-out of its official Bon Scott commemorative coin in 2024, highlighting the remarkable demand for memorabilia celebrating the late frontman’s legacy nearly half a century after his passing.

Meanwhile, microphone manufacturer Neumann has partnered with the Scott family on a special Bon Scott Edition of its iconic U 47 FET microphone, with a portion of proceeds supporting Australian music charity Support Act.

Born in Scotland before relocating to Western Australia as a child, Scott became the unmistakable voice of AC/DC during the band’s formative years, helping create timeless rock classics including Highway To Hell, Whole Lotta Rosie, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and T.N.T. before his death in 1980 at the age of 33.

Yet his influence has only continued to grow. During AC/DC’s Australian tour last year, fans travelled from across the country to visit Scott’s statue in Fremantle, while a recent Triple M poll ranked him the second-greatest lead singer of all time, behind Freddie Mercury.

For many Australians, Bon Scott is far more than the former frontman of AC/DC – he’s become part of the nation’s musical identity.

And on what would’ve been his 80th birthday, we’re being encouraged to celebrate him the way he’d probably want: loudly.

Fans, venues, bands, DJs and promoters celebrating Bon Scott’s 80th birthday are encouraged to share their plans, photos, and videos tagging @bonscott.official using #Bon80.

Key Updates on the Celebrations

The Bon Scott Estate, representing the singer’s family, has spearheaded global #Bon80 celebrations, encouraging Australians to celebrate in various ways. From blasting classic AC/DC tracks from the Bon era to hosting tribute nights, fans are urged to dedicate songs, raise a glass, and share their stories on social media throughout the week. There’s even a ‘Let There Be Bon’ #Bon80 Fan & Venue Pack available for free, containing downloadable posters and social media assets to aid in these celebrations.

Legacy Commemorated Through Art and Merchandise

As part of the celebrations, a new mural of Bon Scott has been unveiled in Melbourne’s famed AC/DC Lane, created by artist Reg Mombassa. The Scott Family and Industry Collaborations

In a touching tribute, microphone maker Neumann has collaborated with the Scott family to create a special Bon Scott Edition of its renowned U 47 FET microphone. Bon Scott’s Enduring Influence

Bon Scott’s journey began in Scotland before he moved to Western Australia as a child, quickly becoming the unmistakable voice of AC/DC. He contributed to timeless tracks such as Highway To Hell, Whole Lotta Rosie, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and T.N.T. Unfortunately, Scott passed away at the young age of 33 in 1980, but the musical influence he left behind has only amplified over the years.
