Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Badrinath Ki Dulhania Movie Review March 10th, 2017

This is the second film in the series that started with the 2014 film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The film and its stars even won awards for best actor and actress in the romantic comedy category.

However, “Badrinath Ki Dulhania” isn’t an exact sequel the characters or the storylines don’t continue onto from the first film. The only thing similar is that it’s about a young couple trying to find their own way to make  their relationship successful in the modern world.

A fresh fun movie that looks at love in a unique way.

Our main female character is Vaidehi Trivedi (who is played by the lovely Alia Bhatt.)

Badrinath is, beautiful, smart, and independent. She has no desire to be married not now or maybe even ever. She doesn’t want to play by society’s standards or her parents rules though she is a good girl. She respects the old traditions but she doesn’t accept them as her own.

Badrinath Bansal (is played by Varun Dhawan). Badrinath, he keeps pursuing her and pursuing her hoping to win her heart. He even sends a marriage proposal to her parents’ house which she is none too happy about. Badrinath, is definitely unsure of himself I believe in life let alone when he gets around Vaidehi. He sticks his foot in his mouth a lot and is awkard in his advances towards her.  For him, it was definitely love at first sight.

Shashank is back for a second time to direct this romantic comedy series. Also, taking on the writing and the screenplay for “Badrinath Ki Dulhania” as well. Our two main lead actors are also back in this film as they play another couple.

Filming took place in summer of 2016.  Many of the scenes were shot it majestic locations Kishore Sagar Lake, Ghatakach Circle, and the Seven Wonders Park in Kota, Rajasthan.

Music is by Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi, Akhil Sachdeva. With the background score arranged by John Stewart Eduri.  The soundtrack has five songs on it. One of the feautured songs may sound familiar to audiences as it was from the film Thanedaar which was realeased in 1990. It’s theme songs was “Tamma Tamma” which was recreated as “Tamma Tamma Again” in honor of the first film.

This film it seems, has quite different perceptions as from the critics and audiences. Either you love it or you don’t there doesn’t seem to be much middle ground unfortunate.

Audiences will be excited to add this to their Holi Festival plans. As it is a colorful, fun, fresh film for the new season.
