In tune with the current World Cup fever, “The Match” opens the festival. Directed by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, the documentary revisits the 1986 World Cup, encapsulating the significance of the iconic ‘Hand of God’ goal by Diego Maradona. More than just a sporting event, the film reflects on the geopolitical scars of the Falklands War, using football as a medium to heal divisions.

“The Only Living Pickpocket in New York”

Directed by Noah Segan, this intriguing film stars John Turturro as a pickpocket released from prison after decades. Thrust into a transformed modern world, he must navigate the challenges of a bygone era. Turturro’s heartfelt performance alongside past collaborators steers the narrative, presenting a reflective look at the passage of time and urban evolution.
